Turkeys hanging out in a residential area.

Who is this lady?

Her name is Mary Ann Strauch but some people call her the turkey lady. She has turkeys in her neighborhood and helps them cross the road every evening.

What really happened?

She helps the turkeys cross the road every evening but one night, everything goes wrong. A speeding car almost hit her along with the turkeys near York St. & 124th Ave on Wed, Oct 4, 2023. The driver who was speeding was a woman and she quickly got out of the car and confronted Strauch according to herself. But was it okay for her to help the turkeys cross the road?

“I think that it is ok for her to help the turkeys cross the road because she’s just trying to help protect the wildlife that its there…” “…she’s just helping them not get ran over.” A 7th grader Lily Hughes said.

What happened after?

The driver got out and tried to confront Strauch to the police. “She got really irate and jumped out and started yelling at me” “And she insisted on calling 911 and having the police come out…” Struach said on KDVR.

The Thornton Police said that both the women were cited for disorderly conduct. Strauch commented “It was very upsetting, and I think it was really unnecessary and uncalled for,”

There were warnings like “Watch for Turkeys” “Slow down” and there was even a speed bump on 124th Ave but unfortunately, it wasn’t enough.” “I think even though accidents may occur… …but I think the speed limits and the warning signs were not… … I think the people should slow down for the speed limits…” 7th grader Lily Hughes said.
