Gone but forever in our hearts. The Day of the Dead is a special day where we honor all of our loved ones who are deeply missed. This includes making sugar skulls to honor the souls of dead ones, and to represent the circle of life.
“For this class, students in my Spanish class were learning about the Day of the Dead, and we were decorating sugar skulls, and we talked about the significance of the holiday and why it’s important to honor our ancestors,” says Tania Whelan, the Spanish teacher at Century Middle School.
The Day of the Dead is important and it should be recognized as something we do to honor our ancestors and loved ones. It honors everyone we love, and its significance in people’s lives. Everyone should celebrate Day of the Dead in one way or another, whether it’s something small or big.
Tania Whelan said, “To do this activity my class watched the movie Coco and they were decorating their own sugar skulls with royal icing. We also did Day of the Dead Coloring pages.”
