Eighth graders from all over the Adams 12 school district visited the Career Expo to find out more about the different options available to them after high school. As current eighth graders explore their different options for high school next year, considering what they want to do after high school may have a influence on their high school path.
“I visited the different booths and saw career opportunities that could be good for me in the future,” said Century eighth grader Leila Medina. Leila especially enjoyed a booth about careers in film.”I found that really interesting to me,” said Medina.
On September 8th, students walked through the career expo and saw many booths advertising specific jobs with information on the path the students need to take to achieve that career choice. Not only did each booth have excellent education information, but they provided a variety of swag (small promotional items) such as sunglasses, chapstick, fidgets, and more.
Some booths also focused on college. “I went to this booth that was about College and which college that would be best for me and the sports I want to play,” said eighth grader Josiah Gonzalez. Besides advice on how to choose a college, the booth also offered information on paying for college. “They also had answers about money issues; we could find a way to make it work,” said Gonzalez.
Before going to the Career expo 8th grade students were given a passport, which contained all the information on how to pick possible career choices. Students were asked what interests them and were given question starters to ask the people at each booth. The passport also provided a map of the expo so students could easily find the booths they were seeking.
